ON A MORNING DEPARTURE, FUEL UP WITH AN ADDITIONAL 30 TO 45 MINUTES OF FUEL, UNLESS YOU'RE WILLING TO DEPART VFR IN HOPES OF PICKING UP AN IFR CLEARANCE LATER ENROUTE. PHOENIX IS NOT VERY GOOD ABOUT INTEGRATING SCOTTSDALE DEPARTURES WHEN KPHX IS BUSY DURING THE "SOUTHWEST FLUSH" AT AROUND 9:00A.M. WE SAT ON THE GROUND FOR CLOSE TO 45 MINS (20 MINS ON THE RAMP BEFORE WE COULD TAXI TO THE RUNWAY), AND IT WAS CLEAR BLUE. YOU CAN DEPART VFR BUT IT IS THEN "SEE AND AVOID", WITH NUMEROUS TRAFFIC IN THE AREA, MOUNTAINS, CEILING OF 17,500 UNTIL YOU GET THE CLEARANCE. FOR US IT IS NOT WORTH THE RISK. <BR>3.) CORPORATE JETS WAS VERY GOOD AND HAD US PULL UP, ICED UP, AND FUELED UP, WITHIN 20 MINUTES OF ARRIVING AT THE AIRPORT. |
